The family of former First Lady, Rosalynn Carter, revealed she has been diagnosed with dementia.  Mrs. Carter is 95 yers old. This news comes just months after Mrs. Carter's husband, former President Jimmy Carter, 98, was placed in hospice care.

The Carter family released a statement saying Rosalynn "continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones."

The statement goes on to talk about Mrs. Carter's dedication to mental health advocacy.  From the Georgia Governor's Mansion to the White House, and later at the Carter Center, she has always pushed for improved access to care. She also worked to decrease the stigma that is often associated with mental health. They also shared the hope that this news will further raise awareness and help those in need to get support.

In response to the news, Governor Brian Kemp released this statement:

President Jimmy Carter, the longest-living president of the United States, terminated medical intervention back in February.  His plan is to live out the rest of his days at his home in Plains, Georgia.
