Hugh Jackman turns 52 today (10/12), and as your resident aficionado on all things Hugh Michael Jackman, here are ten things you may not know about the greatest showman himself!

• 1. He has awful vision.

  Hugh is so nearsighted that when he hosted the Tony & Oscars, he memorized the script so that he wouldn't have to rely on the teleprompter.

• 2. Hugh was NOT the first choice for the role of Wolverine!

  Hugh's most iconic role is Wolverine, but producers originally wanted Russell Crowe (Hugh's co-star in Les Miserables.)

• 3. Hugh is a Guinness Record holder!

  He has played the same superhero the most times in a live-action film franchise.
• 4. He’s not an ugly man.

  People Magazine named Hugh the Sexiest Man Alive in 2008. He was also named one of the magazines "5 Most Beautiful People in the World” 5 years in a row from 2000 to 2004.

• 6. He’s a family man.

  Hugh has been married to his wife, Deborrah, for 24 years. (It's the only marriage for both.) They have two children, who they adopted after Deborrah suffered multiple miscarriages.
• 7. He’s one award shy of being an EGOT winner.

  After winning an Emmy, a Grammy, and a Tony, Hugh would only need to win an Oscar to be an elite EGOT (Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony) winner. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Les Miserables, but the award went to Daniel Day Lewis for Lincoln.

• 8. He’s a real-life Music Man!

  In college, Hugh studied communications & journalism, with hopes of becoming a freelance journalist. In his senior year, he was a few credits short and enrolled in a drama class to make up the credits. The rest, as they say, is history.
