Rated TV-MA, the official Netflix description reads, “Eleven-year-old Amy starts to rebel against her conservative family’s traditions when she becomes fascinated with a free-spirited dance crew.” However, many viewers are accusing the popular streaming platform of sexualizing young girls and normalizing pedophilia.
The controversy began long before the film’s release. Netflix previously issued a statement of apology for “inappropriate artwork” used on a Netflix has a movie called “Cuties” about 11 year olds in a twerking dance group. Some of the reviews claim it’s a “commentary” on the sexualization of children but this is the poster. And keep in mind that the lead actress is actually 11 years old. A petition on change.org to remove the movie from Netflix is now going viral, with over 150,000 signatures as of today (9/11).
