POLL: Who Should Be The Next Woman To Be A Rock Hall Double Inductee?
Stevie Nicks will make history on March 29 when she officially becomes the first woman to be a double inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This, of course, leads to the obvious question: Who’s next?
Billboard published an article today (March 13) titled “Women Who Have Made History at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” where they mentioned a list of women that are eligible for a second induction:
“Among the women who Nicks beat to the punch by becoming the first two-time female inductee are Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Mavis Staples, Gladys Knight, Joan Jett, Ann Wilson and Nicks’ Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie, who have been inducted with their famous groups, but not yet on their own; Janis Joplin, who was inducted on her own but not as part of Big Brother and the Holding Company; and Carole King, who was inducted as a non-performer, but has not yet been selected as a performer.”
All due respect to Wilson and McVie, but their solo catalogs just don’t stand up to the others mentioned. As for Jett, she’s more likely to become a double inductee if The Runaways are ever inducted into the Rock Hall. She’s released three studio albums under the name Joan Jett (sans The Blackhearts): her 1980’s self-released self-titled debut, the 1981 re-release of her debut under Boardwalk Records that was retitled Bad Reputation and the 1990’s covers album The Hit List. Everyone else mentioned, however, should be in the double inductee conversation.
