Don’t Throw Away Your Solar Eclipse Glasses – Here’s Why
Wait! Don’t toss your Solar Eclipse glasses just yet.
This local business, ABECA Naturals, located in the CSRA wants to collect used Solar Eclipse glasses to send to schools in Latin America, so that they can enjoy and experience the October ’24 Annular Eclipse.
ABECA Naturals is a holistic health resource store located in North Augusta. They have Loose-leaf herbs, extracts, natural body products, and more.
They will be collecting the glasses at their store located at 503 W. Martintown Rd. North Augusta, South Carolina.
They will be accepting these glasses throughout the next few months and will ship the glasses off this summer.
On October 2, 2024, an annular, or “ring of fire,” solar eclipse will occur in South America.
An annular eclipse is when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, but during a time when the moon is far from us. That makes the moon appear smaller in the sky, so it doesn’t fully cover the sun. During an annular eclipse, the sun appears as a bright ring of light around the dark moon – that is why it is also known as the ring of fire eclipse because the sun peaking out around the moon gives it that illusion.
The path of annularity will cross over Chile and Argentina. The path will also cross over Easter Island (Chile). In the U.S., a partial solar eclipse will occur in Hawaii. This will be the only U.S. state that will get any action during the eclipse on October 2, 2024. This partial eclipse will be visible in Hawaii early in the morning as the sun is rising.
The maximum duration of annularity for this eclipse will be 7 minutes and 25 seconds.
If you aren’t able to get your glasses to ABECA Naturals, you can ship off your own glasses here:
