Target and Macy’s Announce Tens of Thousands To Be Hired For The Holidays
If you’re looking for a job for the upcoming holiday season, Target and Macy’s have announced they’re each looking for a lot of workers.
Macy’s says it will hire roughly 38,000 full and part-time workers as it gears up for the busy holiday shopping season. That’s still about 1,000 fewer workers than last year.
Macy’s will hold two nationwide in-person holiday hiring events all stores, including one at Augusta Mall, this Thursday, September 21. A second hiring event will be held at stores on Thursday, October 21. Times will vary by location.

Company officials say you can also apply online at macysjobs.com. “Whether they are looking for extra income for the season or the start of a new career in retail, we offer an unmatched culture, competitive pay and fulfilling retail career opportunities,” said Danielle Kirgan, Macy’s chief transformation and human resources officer.
Meanwhile, Target announced today it plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers. And they also plan to start offering holiday discounts as early as October. Retailers are expecting weaker holiday sales this year, thanks to the economy. A report from consultant firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas shows weaker spending combined with increased labor costs will likely result in retailers hiring the lowest number of seasonal workers this year since 2008.
Target officials also say the retailer will start offering items under $25 in several departments including apparel, home goods, and essentials. A “Deal of the Day” program is also scheduled to begin in October.
Retail giant Amazon will kick off its second Prime Day event for the year October 10-11. During that same time, Best Buy says it will have a flash 48-hour sale on those days as well.
Speaking of Amazon, the company says it plans to hire 150,000 employees across its operations for the holiday season. And Walmart plans to add as many as 40,000 full and part-time holiday workers.
