Stevie Nicks Gives Tearful Tribute to Christine McVie at First Show Since Her Death
Stevie Nicks closed her first solo performance since the death of Christine McVie with a moving rendition of “Landslide.”
Nicks performed the Fleetwood Mac classic during her March 10 solo show at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The song closed out a 16-song set that was part of her stadium shows with Billy Joel.
In the fan-shot video below, Nicks performs the song while a slideshow of photos of her with McVie appears on the screens behind her. The two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer is overcome with emotion at the end of the performance. Nicks bows her head and fails to sing the final lyrics.
Once the song ends, she tells the crowd, “There’s really not much to say. We just will pretend that she’s still here. That’s how I’m trying to deal with it. Thank you for listening.”
McVie died suddenly on November 30, 2022 at age 79 after a brief illness. Shortly after her death, Nicks shared, in part, in a statement, “A few hours ago, I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975 had passed away. I didn’t even know she was ill…until late Saturday night … See you on the other side, my love. Don’t forget me.”
The future of Fleetwood Mac hasn’t been made official. However, Mick Fleetwood said in a red carpet interview at the Grammy Awards in February, “I think right now, I truly think the line in the sand has been drawn with the loss of Chris.” He added, “I’d say we’re done, but then we’ve all said that before. It’s sort of unthinkable right now.”
