Convicted Murderer Gregory McMichael Sent to Augusta State Medical Prison
One of three men found guilty of the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in Brunswick in 2020 was moved to the Augusta State Medical Prison earlier this month.
Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael, and their neighbor, Roddy Bryan, were found guilty of the death of Arbery when he was shot while running through a suburban neighborhood not far from downtown Brunswick.
The elder McMichael had served five months of his life sentence at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification State Prison, when he was recently moved to Augusta State Medical Prison.
“once offenders complete the diagnostic process at Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison, they are moved to their permanent housing assignment based on their individual diagnostic evaluation, as is the case with McMichael,” said Joan Heath with the Georgia DOC Office.
McMichael’s attorney, A.J. Balbo, would only comment that the 64-year-old McMichael has been treated for a stroke and depression since the sentencing.
Officials won’t comment on why McMichael is currently housed at Augusta State Medical Prison or how long he is expected to remain there.
