Local Blood Bank Needs Donations
One local blood bank needs donations- urgently.
According to WRDW, Shepeard Community Blood Center is in major need of blood donations. There’s an immediate need for all blood types, but particularly O Positive and O Negative.
With the pandemic, local blood drives have not been done, leading to even more of a shortage nationwide.
We have many local hospitals with patients in need of blood. All donations with Shepeard Community Blood Center stay local at Augusta University Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Georgia and University Hospital.
Shepeard Community Blood Center has the following blood donation opportunities:
- First Baptist Church of Thomson, 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday
- Health Center Credit Union in Augusta, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
- University Hospital in Augusta, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
- Blood Give In at First Baptist Church of Augusta, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 1
You must be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be 17 years of age (16 with parental consent). You will also need a photo ID or your Shepeard donor card.
Shepeard Community Blood Center is practicing social distancing. You can schedule an appointment to donate by calling 706-737-4551.
Donating one pint of blood can save up to 3 lives! If your blood is separated into red cells, platelets and plasma, it can be used individually to help patients with specific conditions.
