FCC Fines Telemarketers For Robocalls
FCC fines telemarketers for robocalls, enforcing their largest fine ever.
FCC Issues Largest Fines
The FCC is enforcing a fine of $225 million against a company in Texas. This is the largest fine ever issued by the FCC. The telemarketing company is being fined for sending around one BILLION robocalls.
The calls made by the company falsely claimed to sell health insurance. They pretended to represent companies such as Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and others.
One employee at the call center admitted to calling people that are on the Do Not Call list.
As a result, the FCC has also issued several cease and desist orders against other robocallers. It will be interesting to see if the FCC fines other telemarketers for robocalls. We know there’s no shortage of them!
Robocalls- All. The. Time.
While typing this information, my cell phone rings. Another number I don’t recognize. You guessed it– telemarketer. Only this time, it’s a computerized voice telling me I have fraudulent activity on my social security number. Is it just me, or does it seem to come in waves? I either get NO calls for a week or so, or I’m hounded by them! This week alone, I wouldn’t be scared to say I’ve received more than 10 calls (and that’s low balling a number).
While I do answer sometimes, I usually only do that to see if there’s a “Do Not Call” option. Other times, I hang up or don’t answer at all. It’s exhausting.
It’s also really sad that many people get sucked into telemarketing calls and wind up being scammed. There are so many scams out there. I even questioned it when my mortgage company was calling me about refinancing. I called them back to confirm it was actually them calling. Seems you can’t trust anything these days! If it’s not a call, it’s those dang ads on Facebook– I’ve been known to get sucked into those too!
Have you ever been scammed by a telemarketer or robocall?
