Tom Morello Endorses Effort to Get Black Hole Named After Chris Cornell
The fan effort to get the first photographed black hole in history named after Chris Cornell just got the support of former Audioslave bandmate Tom Morello.
Morello said in a new interview with WRXR about the naming campaign, “I heard that. I think that would be really nice. I don’t know who you send that petition to, but I’d be happy to officially add my name to that…That seems absolutely appropriate.”
Earlier this week, Cornell’s widow, Vicky, shared her support of the campaign saying, “This is truly an incredible effort from the fans. Chris would be honored.”
Giuliana Jarrin launched a petition at Change.org asking “NASA, the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration and all the astronomers and scientists involved in this discovery, to name this black hole after Chris Cornell. This would be a ‘surreal’ and amazing way to honor his life and his contribution to music.” So far, over 46,000 people have signed the petition. NASA and the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration have yet to comment on the petition.
