VIDEO: John Mulaney Recounts Taking Pete Davidson to a Steely Dan Concert
John Mulaney has a knack for sharing funny music-themed stories when he’s a guest on a late-night talk show, and his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night featured a couple of funny stories about taking Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson to a couple of concerts.
Below, Mulaney tells Fallon about taking Davidson to see Bob Dylan and being joined by Jerry Seinfeld. Davidson knows who Dylan is, but he doesn’t know any of his music, so during “Like A Rolling Stone,” he has to lean over and tell Davidson to pay attention, because the song is a bit of a big deal.
The best story, however, comes when Mulaney takes Davidson to see Steely Dan, one of Mulaney’s favorite acts ever. Not only does Davidson not know any Steely Dan songs, he didn’t know Steely Dan was a band. (He thought he was seeing a comedian.) However, despite this, Davidson not only has a good time, he managed to get a Steely Dan crowd to do the impossible: STAND DURING THE SHOW!
All of this and more is covered in the first video below, and if you’re looking to continue to laugh, check out the second video in which Mulaney talks about wanting to host the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
