The Latest on New Adaptations of ‘High Fidelity,’ ‘Almost Famous’
News surfaced back in April that High Fidelity, the 1995 Nick Hornby novel which was adapted into the 2000 film of the same name that starred John Cusack and Jack Black, was being adapted again into a more family-friendly TV series for Disney’s new streaming service. Despite me freaking out and going full Chris Crocker in exclaiming “Leave ‘High Fidelity’ alone!”, I will admit the latest news on the series is rather interesting.
Per Variety, Zoe Kravitz has been cast in the lead role of the series, which will see a gender reversal with a woman playing the role of a romantically challenged record store owner with a penchant for making top five lists.
Why is this so interesting? Because Kravitz’s mother, Lisa Bonet, played the cooler-than-cool musician Marie De Salle in the film adaptation. What are the odds, really?!
So far, there’s no new updates as to when this series will start filming and when it’ll premiere, but consider my interest piqued.
In other adaptation news: Cameron Crowe is currently working on a stage musical version of his Academy Awarding-winning film Almost Famous.
Per Rolling Stone (because obviously), Crowe has been working on the adaptation for the past couple of years with Tom Kitt, best known for his work on the musical adaptation of the Green Day album American Idiot, tapped for composing the music, with he and Crowe contributing lyrics.
Of the project, Crowe said, “It doesn’t even feel like work. It feels like a new adventure, a natural progression but still true to the question that started it all. ‘What do you love about music?’. Can’t wait to bring it to you in the coming months.”
An exact premiere date is currently unknown, but I can’t wait to see who he’ll cast as Penny Lane, famously played by Kate Hudson and who should’ve won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 2001. (Seriously…Marcia Gay Harden in Pollock? WTF?! Kate was ROBBED!)
Clearly, I’m still not over this. Whatever…It’s all happening!
