Ringo Could Become “Sir Ringo” Soon
Ringo Starr is reportedly headed for knighthood in the U.K.
British papers are reporting that Starr will become the second Beatle, after Paul McCartney, to receive a knighthood when the Queen’s New Year Honors are announced on January 1. The Sun reports that Starr has been informed of the honor, with various anonymous sources calling it “overdue” and one saying that “He’ll feel 10 feet tall” when he receives the knighthood at Buckingham Palace. Another said the news, “came as a bolt from the blue. Ringo was totally knocked sideways, but is chuffed to bits.”
Starr, along with the other Beatles, was named a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1965, though John Lennon returned his honor during 1969. McCartney received his knighthood in 1997.
Starr released a new album, Give Me Love, this year and is taking a new version of his All-Starr Band out on the road during 2018.
