ICYMI: Alice Cooper Cast In NBC’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar Live!’
Alice Cooper is putting on King Herod‘s crown again for NBC’s live production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which is slated to air on Easter Sunday, April 1.
Cooper previously sang “King Herod’s Song” for the cast album from the 1996 U.K. production of the musical at the explicit request of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Tim Rice. Announcing Cooper’s addition to the cast, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt called him “the perfect rock star to play Herod in our live production…we all look forward to the ‘King of Shock Rock’ taking on the King of Judea. As the casting for ‘Superstar’ ramps up, we can feel the excitement building for this brand new concert experience of what has long been considered the original rock musical.”
The production will be helmed by British director David Leveaux.
The Superstar stop will be part of a busy year for Cooper, which includes touring to support his latest album, Paranormal, starting March 1 in Windsor, Ontario. Cooper also told us that Hollywood Vampires will release another album and tour in 2018, but no details have been announced yet.
