How Ted Nugent’s Recent Call For Civility Echoes ‘Rocky IV’
When comments from Ted Nugent make headlines, they’ve often led to a lot of raised eyebrows. This time around, his comments are still raising said brows but for different reasons.
The Nuge recently spoke with WABC’s Curtis and Eboni and said that his wife, Shemane, has convinced him to not “use those harsh terms” anymore when speaking about liberal politicians and citizens. He went on to say, “I encourage even my friends/enemies on the left in the Democrat and liberal world that we have got to be civil to each other.”
As if that weren’t enough, Uncle Ted added, “I’m going to take a deep breath and I am going to back it down, and if it gets fiery, if it gets hateful, I’m going away. I’m not going to engage in that kind of hateful rhetoric anymore.”
(Note: Nugent also said he’s “never reference violence” and only cops to saying “some smart-ass stuff in the past,” but that’s another debate for another time.)
Anyway…how does Rocky IV factor into this?
Remember the final scene where Rocky Balboa addresses the Russian crowd after handing Ivan Drago his ass?
“If I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!”
In times of conflict, inspiration and guidance can come from some surprising sources, and the Motor City Madman’s words are welcomed proof of that, and frankly, there’s desperate need for more of it.
If Ted can change, you can change. Everybody can change!
