  • Blood Drive TODAY!

    Augusta University is holding a blood drive today for Shepeard Community Blood Center.

    It’s being held from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the AU Graduate Student Government Association Building on Laney Walker Boulevard.

    All donors will receive a free pair of A-U socks and a $20 Amazon gift card.  The incentives are good for that location only.

  • Pet Adoption Special - Aiken County

    If you’ve been thinking about getting a pet, the Aiken County Animal Shelter is offering a “sweet” deal for Valentine’s Day.

    The adoption fee this Saturday, February 12, will be just $14 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.  The cost includes spay or neuter, microchip and a rabies vaccine.

    Friends of the Animal Shelter is also asking the community for donations of dog and cat food.  They’ll hold a drive-thru drop-off food drive Saturday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.

    The Aiken County Animal Shelter is at 333 Wire Road in Aiken.

  • Masks in Schools Debate

    Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is urging lawmakers to give parents the final word on whether their children should wear masks at school.  The governor wants a bill making it clear that parents are in the best position to decide whether their children should mask up.

    Kemp says people “are beyond frustrated” by the ongoing mask debate, prompting him to seek to put the decision squarely in the hands of parents.

  • Hiring Bonuses for Some Aiken County Schools

    Hiring bonuses are now being offered at certain schools in Aiken County as the system continues to deal with staffing shortages.

    Sign-on bonuses of $2,500 will be offered to new teachers at eight schools in the county, where officials say it’s harder to find qualified instructors.

    They’re also offering $2,500 bonuses to any new special education teachers, speech pathologists, school psychologists and middle and high school math teachers.

  • Powerball Winner in Aiken

    If you recently bought a Powerball ticket in Aiken…check the numbers.

    Someone is a $50,000 winner from the February 5 drawing.

    The winning ticket was purchased at Airport Stop & Shop on Columbia Highway North.

    The winning numbers were 5-16-27-39-61. The Powerball number was 24.
