Thanksgiving has now come and gone. And though some people decorated for Christmas even before then, we are officially in the Christmas season. There’s always so much going on during this time of year. Gift-giving, holiday parties at school or work, visiting with friends and family, and maybe some extra time off.  On top of that, you have holiday events around town… like Evans On Ice, Lights Of The South, Christmas Tree lighting events, and more. And while traditions may have come and gone throughout the years, there’s one that many people still enjoy each year: watching some of the best Christmas movies.

Of course, determining the best Christmas movies will always be a debate.  Some people prefer classic holiday movies, while others love newer movies or remakes of the classics. You have to admit, there are a lot of great holiday movies to choose from. And for some, it wouldn’t be the holiday season without watching their favorite Christmas movies.

Depending on what website you look at, you’ll find a different ranking on holiday movies.  But for this list, we’ll look at a few from Good Housekeeping, who ranked 72 of the best Christmas movies, and Town & Country Magazine, who had 65 movies on their list.

  • 10. The Holiday

Goodhouse Keeping ranked ‘The Holiday,’ a 2006 film, at number 10.

Town & Country Magazine put this one at number 25 on their list.  Instead, their number 10 was ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch’ from 2018.

  • 9. Dr. Seuss' The Grinch

While it came in at number 10 for Town & Country Magazine, Good Housekeeping ranked ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch’ from 2018 at number 9. It’s definitely a favorite for many people during the holiday season.

Town & Country Magazine actually had ‘Klaus’ as their number 9.  This is a Netflix original movie made in 2019.

  • 8. Miracle On 34th Street

Good Housekeeping ranks ‘Miracle On 34th Street’ at number 8.  The original film, made back in 1947.

Town & Country Magazine puts this one at number 26 on their list!

  • 7. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

Surprisingly, this sequel to ‘Home Alone’ made the top 10 list for Good Housekeeping, but the original didn’t.

But Town & Country Magazine has both on their list, with Home Alone 2 coming in at number 6, and the original coming in at number 5!

  • 6. Elf

This 2003 is definitely a favorite for many!  So many great one liners, and lots of laughs.  Good Housekeeping ranks it at 6.

This movie came in a little better on Town & Country Magazine’s list, ranking at number 3!

  • 5. A Charlie Brown Christmas

It’s a classic! ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ was released in 1965, and for many, it’s a tradition to watch it at least once each holiday season!

It didn’t fare as well on Town & Country Magazine’s list… it ranked at number 18!

  • 4. A Christmas Story

Since it debuted in 1983, this holiday movie has become a classic! Good Housekeeping ranked it at number 4!

But Town & Country Magazine put this one at the top of their holiday movie list, coming in at number one!

  • 3. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

A hilarious holiday movie enjoyed by many each holiday season. ‘National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation’ was released in 1989.  It comes in at number 3 on Good Housekeeping’s list.

For Town & Country Magazine, this one ranks at number 4, so not much of a difference there!

  • 2. Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

This 1964 holiday animated movie is a classic! Good Housekeeping ranked it at number 2!

Town & Country Magazine put this one a LOT further down the list.  It was ranked 61 out of 65 on their list.

  • 1. It's A Wonderful Life

Another true holiday classic!  This film was released in 1946.  IT was nominated for 6 Academy Awards and also ranks #11 on the American Film Institute’s original list of 100 Greatest American Films of All Time!  Good Housekeeping puts this one in the number one spot.

Town & Country Magazine ranked it pretty well too… but it came in at number 2 on their list.
