The History Of Southern Rock

Southern rock is a subgenre type of rock music and a genre of Americana. Its roots were developed in the Southern United States from rock and roll, country music, and blues, and is focused generally on electric guitars and vocals.  The term Southern Rock was born around 1972 or also called “The Sound Of The South”.

One of the early founders of Southern Rock was The Allman Brothers Band.  A Southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969. The original line-up of the Allman Brothers Band consisted of Gregg and Duane Allman, Berry Oakley, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, and Jaimoe.  Blending country, jazz, and blues with hard guitars made this band a very popular choice of the Southern Rock Sound

Bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd out of Jacksonville Florida.  The Marshall Tucker Band Out Of Spartanburg South Carolina.  Even the Country Band in the early days, Alabama, were considered to be the founding fathers of Southern Rock.
