• Murder Indictment in Drug Deal

  A Columbia County man faces a murder indictment for his alleged involvement in a deadly drug deal.

  Thirty year old Colin Magill of Grovetown is accused of selling Fentanyl to two men, including 28 year old Alex King of Martinez in July of 2020, who died after ingesting the drug.

  Columbia County District Attorney Bobby Christine hopes the grand jury’s decision to indict sends a clear message.

  Christine says the second drug buyer survived and has offered evidence in the case.  The charge against Magill could result in a life sentence.

• Fire at Old Augusta Newsprint Building

  Augusta Richmond County firefighters are on the scene of a fire at the old Augusta Newsprint building off Doug Barnard Parkway.

  Crews were called to the scene around 10:00 a.m.

  It’s not known what started the fire or how much damage has been done.

  Resolute Forest Products shut the local mill down in 2019 due to the declining demand for newsprint paper.

• Aiken Regional Medical Centers Job Fairs

  Aiken Regional Medical Centers plans to hold several job fairs throughout the year, thanks to ongoing staffing shortages.

  The hiring events will focus on positions in nursing and support services.

  Hospital officials say qualified nurses can receive a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000.

  They will be holding job fairs every second Tuesday for Environmental Services positions; every third Tuesday for nursing jobs; and walk-ins can come every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until noon.

  Job fairs will be held in the main lobby of the hospital.

• New Look for Augusta Technical College

  It’s a whole new look for Augusta Technical College.

  Monday, officials unveiled the school’s new logo, school colors and mascot.

  Their new logo, “It’s Time,” says it all when it comes to what the school is all about, according to Augusta Tech President Dr. Jermaine Whirl.

  You’ll start seeing new billboards and signage bearing the new logo and branding in the next few weeks.
