Did you know that there are a ton of Christmas movies that were filmed in Georgia?
When it comes to Georgia, a movie will surely be filmed here! Many shows are probably filming right now, in this state as you read. So much so that it has been coined as the Hollywood of the South. The Walking Dead, Stranger Things, and Hunger Games are just a few shows and movies that have been filmed in Georgia.
It’s no different with the filming of Christmas movies – Georgia is still the hotspot!
There are a few reasons why though:
- The setting! Georgia’s landscape has a little bit of everything. Some cities are home to towering skyscrapers and then other areas have mountains. Thick forests are all around the state. We also have a fair share of waterfalls. You even have your city settings and your small-town settings all in one state.
- The weather is often a plus for filming. With the mild weather throughout the year, filming would rarely need to be delayed due to that. For instance snow – it is rare for Georgia to see enough snow for it to hinder production.
- One of the main reasons movies and films are shot here is because of the tax incentive. Georgia’s Entertainment Industry Investment Act offers a 20 percent tax credit when companies spend $500,000 or more on production and post-production in Georgia. This incentive is applicable for either a single production or multiple projects. This tax credit extends to companies producing feature films, television series, music videos, and commercials. It also applies to interactive games.
Specifically speaking on Christmas, Georgia is also home to the city of Helen, which is one of the most popular towns in the nation during Christmas. For starters, the small town is very German-inspired and during the holiday season, it comes alive. It certainly makes a perfect place to shoot a holiday movie.
