Aiken Department Of Public Safety Citizen’s Academy Applications Due Soon
Are you interested in learning about public safety, and how each department operates? The Aiken Department of Public Safety is getting ready to kick off its Citizen’s Academy soon. This is part of the department’s initiative to educate the community. The Citizen’s Academy is a series of classes over the course of 9 weeks. These classes will help participants gain a deeper understanding of various aspects of public safety. The next class session will kick off on Thursday, February 1, 2024. Applications are due on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Citizen’s Academy
The Aiken Department of Public Safety’s Citizen’s Academy is a nine-week program. Classes are held each Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Each class covers a different topic and is taught by members of the public safety profession. Throughout the training, participants will learn about topics like basic patrol functions, firefighting, use of force, community policing, traffic safety, criminal investigations, and more.
It’s important to note that the Citizen’s Academy serves as an overview of the Aiken Department of Public Safety’s functions and operations. This isn’t training for official positions in law enforcement or firefighting.
If you’d like to apply for the Citizen’s Academy, you can get an application at the Public Safety Headquarters at 834 Beaufort Street NE in Aiken. Applications are also available online HERE. For more information, contact Cpt. Aaron Dobbs at (803)644-1905 or email him at [email protected].
More Community Engagement
The Aiken Department of Public Safety also hosts events to engage with the community in various ways. Coming up on Friday, January 26th, they are hosting Pickleball With A Cop at Odell Weeks Activity Center from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. This is a time to have some fun and connect with your local public safety personnel. Whether you have pickleball experience or not, you’re invited to join for a fun afternoon.
Also, January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. And the Aiken Department of Public Safety is using its social media to educate the community on warning signs to watch for.
