Grovetown Woman Charged After Dog Carcasses Found
There was a recent gruesome discovery at a Grovetown woman’s home after multiple dog carcasses were found in the home, including the refrigerator.
A woman contacted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office recently to report she hadn’t seen her neighbor, Margaret Nevils, or anyone at the home on Magnolia Parkway since October.
A deputy went to the home and tried to contact Nevils on her cell phone, but only got her voicemail.
What The Deputy Discovered At The Home
The deputy said he looked in the windows and saw the floor was covered in animal feces. In addition, the furniture had been destroyed. He reported, “A small pitbull ran from the back of the residence to the window and I noticed that the pitbull was emaciated. I also noticed that the walls had holes chewed through them where the pitbull had been chewing.”
The deputy forced his way into the home and Animal Services removed the dog.
The Sheriff’s Office says one of three deputies on the scene noticed blood seeping from the freezer, opened the refrigerator door and found a black trash bag inside with an animal foot sticking out of the bag. A total of six bags were found in the refrigerator and freezer, which all contained dog carcasses.
Deputies then forced their way into locked bedrooms as an investigation continued. In the master bedroom, three more deceased dogs were found in various stages of decomposition. In the spare bedroom, there were multiple empty dog cages with a piece of furniture that had been shredded by the dogs. Deputies said they found items belonging to a child or teenager in a third bedroom. But no human remains were found on the property.
An Arrest has been Made in the Case
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says the 41-year-old Margaret Nevils was recently charged January 5 with Animal Cruelty. She was released from the Columbia County Detention Center on $5,100 bond.
