Democratic Party of Georgia Recruiting Hundreds to Run for Office
The Democratic Party of Georgia just launched a statewide campaign in hopes of recruiting hundreds of Democrats to run for local offices.
It’s part of a national campaign by Contest Every Race, in hopes that no Republican will go unchallenged on the ballot.
The Democratic Party of Georgia says that having more Democrats running locally helps to boost turnout and enthusiasm within the party. The goal is to increase Democratic votes in the state, and a win for President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign in the state.
“Georgia Democrats are committed to competing up and down the ballot all across our state, without discounting or taking for granted a single county, including rural and non-metro areas. We’re proud to partner with Contest Every Race on this ambitious effort to supercharge Democratic power, infrastructure and turnout in every corner of Georgia,” said Democratic Party of Georgia Executive Director, Kevin Olasanoye.
This year’s candidate recruitment program is targeting close to 3,000 local races covering almost every county in the state. The primary focus is on county commission, city council and school board offices.
Democratic Party of Georgia hopes to recruit at least 100 new Democrats to file for office by the March 1st deadline, according to Olasanoye.
