Graniteville’s Giant Cross
Do you know the story behind The Giant Cross In Graniteville’s Giant Cross? Ever driven through Graniteville at night and wondered about that giant cross in the Graniteville Cemetery?
The 92-foot-tall white steel cross located near the William Gregg monument in the back of the historic Graniteville Cemetery on Gregg Highway is a project of the Megiddo Dream Station. According to The Megiddo Dream Stations website, They help underemployed and unemployed adults become better job candidates. They provide life skills classes and relationship help. Megiddo owns part of the small piece of property. They use this for the site of the cross and are leasing the rest from the cemetery.
Kay Benitez, Megiddo’s executive director’s quote. “The cross will be a reminder to our students that God has a plan for their lives, and if they stay the course, they will realize their dreams.” It’s a place for the community to come to pray, think, or meditate.
The Cross is 92 Feet Tall. That’s equal to an eight-and-a-half-story building. Megiddo’s current home is a historic building on the corner of Canal Street and Gregg Highway. They do have plans to build a $5 million, 10-acre campus, which will be called Megiddo Field of Dreams, on Gregg Highway near the cemetery and the cross. The Megiddo Dream Station is open to any and everyone, it is a Christ-based program based on biblical principles.
