Georgia Amazon Workers Walk Out on Prime Day
Many Georgia Amazon workers walked out demanding higher wages and more focus on safety, according to WSB-TV in Atlanta. The walkout occurred during a crucial week for Amazon- Prime Week. One worker at the Doraville distribution center said they walked out Wednesday morning around 7 a.m.
It seems the sales during this week at Amazon have put extra pressure on the employees, leading to many managers pushing for higher quotas. Employees feel the higher quotas come at a cost when it comes to safety.
The raise demanded by the group would increase the pay to $18 an hour. The minimum starting wage at the Doraville distribution site is currently $15.80 an hour. An Amazon spokesperson pointed out to WSB-TV that it’s “twice the local minimum wage.”
