CSRA News: Full Investigation on Augusta Mayor
State ethics lawyers are about to launch a full investigation into allegations against Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis. Commissioners voted to proceed with the probe after Davis consented to one complaint that he had continued to raise money after saying he had stopped. The mayor has only said the money was used for city business.
The second complaint centers around a so-called “dark money” campaign that Davis and a former aide allegedly took part in to support replacing the James Brown Arena with a new facility at the old Regency Mall site.
The mayor denies involvement, but commissioners cite evidence that Davis used his personal email to conduct business on the campaign’s behalf.
