Beasley Media Group Celebrates 60 Years!
Beasley Media- 60 Years!
Today is a very special day here at Beasley Media Group. It was on this day back in 1961, when the late George G. Beasley (a high school principal at the time) was awarded an FCC license to build his first radio station- WPYB-AM, in Benson, North Carolina.
Since that day, Mr. Beasley’s passion for the industry grew. He was part of a small group of broadcasting pioneers who worked to introduce radio to smaller cities and towns around the country. He soon turned his passion for radio into his full-time career.
Throughout the years, he bought and sold many stations. In 1976, Mr. Beasley bought WDMT-FM in Cleveland. A huge milestone for the company with this station being the first true large market station they owned.
The expansion and growth of Beasley Broadcast Group continued, along with the growth of FM radio.
It was through Mr. Beasley’s pure passion, discipline and determination that the company continued to thrive, even through recession.
Beasley Media Group continues Mr. Beasley’s legacy, growing and adapting to an ever-changing media world and is committed to exploring new innovative technology. Embracing the rise of smartphones and radio apps, and growing more and more in the digital realm with the evolution of how listeners connect with us on a daily basis.
Beasley Media Group currently has 62 stations in 15 markets.
