You Can Help Those Affected By Hurricane Ida
CBS News reports Ida made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 4 hurricane, only weakening to a Category 2 hurricane 10 hours after it made landfall. As the rain beat down on the area, it wiped out power for most of the state and destroyed many buildings and took down powerlines and trees in it’s path. The storm brought maximum sustained winds of up to 105 miles per hour. Ida arrived on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, which left so much devastation for the area as one of the strongest storms in U.S. history.
With the arrival of Hurricane Ida, the people of Louisiana and surrounding areas are in major need of assistance over the coming months.
You can help by making a donation to the American Red Cross HERE.
Teams from our Augusta chapter of the American Red Cross have already arrived in Louisiana to begin disaster relief efforts, along with hundreds of other trained disaster workers. The American Red Cross is sending relief supplies to help support thousands of people in evacuation shelters from Texas to Florida. These supplies include cots, blankets, comfort kits and ready-to-eat meals. Blood donations were also prepared ahead of the storm to stock hospitals in the areas affected by the storm.
“I’ve been deployed six times in the past four years as the Executive Director, and the level of devastation from Hurricane Ida is almost incomprehensible. We often take for granted how blessed we are to have a home and to be safe from harm’s way. I hope that anyone who has these things will find a way to help those who are suffering so much right now, says Executive Director of the Augusta American Red Cross, Susan Landreth-Everitt.
