This is a unique way to meet new neighbors! Offer free beer!

A couple in Florida, Amanda and Thomas Evans, moved from Fort Myers to a new home in Cape Coral.  It was a unique time, since the pandemic had just gotten underway. Amanda and Thomas were buying their first house.  Amanda said with the pandemic, it made for a different experience than most first time home buyers. They realized it might make meeting new people more difficult.

Despite walking their rescue dog around the neighborhood, they still weren't sure how people were feeling with everything going on. So, the couple came up with a brilliant way to still meet their new neighbors.

They printed up flyers that offered their nearby neighbors free beer. The flyer read: "Hi, we're new to the neighborhood and would like to meet our lovely neighbors. We will be in our driveways with drinks, ready to meet any neighbors who would like to stop by.  We can't wait to meet you."

Thomas wasn't so sure this tactic would work.  But, he was pleasantly surprised! Neighbors started appearing in droves as soon as the couple put up the "Free Beer" sign in their yard.

Thomas says people were doing double takes at the free beer sign.  But they quickly found it was a great way to get people to show up, and of course, make new friends!

What a unique way to meet new neighbors.  And just like many situations, free alcohol is always a great ice breaker! In the past, many neighbors would bring over gifts or baked goods, but this approach may have worked better.  Plus, with the pandemic, it provided a way to meet the neighbors without the pressure if they didn't feel comfortable.
