National Napping Day!
It makes sense for National Napping Day to come right after Daylight Saving Time. We did lose hour of sleep over the weekend, which means you may be feeling a bit more tired today. This can be worse if you have kids or pets that don’t understand what’s happening with the time change! Anyone else’s kids/pets confused?
Do you take naps regularly? According to many studies, naps can actually be beneficial for you. It can help you feel better overall, which can help improve your mood. Ten to twenty minute naps can help if you hit that midday drag, and can help you be more productive in the afternoon.
Be careful about when you take naps because it can have negative side effects! Napping too late in the day can mess with your nighttime sleeping habits, which can just turn into a vicious cycle of always napping.
For some people, 10-20 minutes of a nap may not be enough! It can even take some people close to 10 minutes just to fall asleep.
Here’s an interesting site with some cool napping facts (like, our bodies are programmed to need sleep between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Wonder what our bosses would think?)
Also, National Napping Day originated in 1999 by a Boston University Professor and his wife, because they wanted to highlight the health benefits of sleep!
