Tina Turner: See Teaser Trailer for New HBO Documentary
Tina Turner is the subject of a new HBO documentary set to premiere in March, and the first glimpse of the doc is now available.
Aptly titled Tina, the documentary explores the remarkable life of Turner and boasts never-before-seen footage, audio tapes and personal photos. The film’s teaser trailer can be viewed below.
The doc features interviews with not only its subject but with Oprah Winfrey, Turner’s husband Erwin Bach, journalist Kurt Loder and Angela Bassett, who played Turner in the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got to Do With It and was robbed of an Oscar for her performance. (Holly Hunter won out over Bassett for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Piano, and it’s still something this writer and countless others aren’t over.)
The teaser trailer closes with Turner saying, “I’m a girl from a cotton field that pulled myself above the destruction and the mistakes. And I’m here for you.”
Tina premieres on HBO and HBO Max on March 27.
Turner was recently announced as a nominee for the 2021 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her solo work. Turner was previously inducted into the Rock Hall in 1991 with Ike Turner.
Fans can vote for Turner as part of the Rock Hall’s Fan Vote, which runs through April 30 at RockHall.com. Fans are allowed to vote once per day during the Fan Vote period. Visitors of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland will also have the opportunity to vote in person. The “Fans’ Ballot” will be comprised of the top five artists from the fan vote and will be counted among the other ballots filled out by various artists, historians, and music industry professionals.
The 2021 inductees will be announced in May, while the induction ceremony is currently slated to take place this fall in Cleveland.
