White House and Congress Agree On $2 Trillion Rescue Bill
The White House and Senate leaders of both political parties have reached agreement on a $2 trillion measure to rush aid to businesses, workers and a health care system slammed by the coronavirus pandemic. It’s the largest economic rescue measure in history.
The Senate is likely to pass the measure this afternoon. In the House, leaders hope to clear the measure for President Donald Trump’s signature by a voice vote without having to call lawmakers back to Washington.
If it passes, the bill would provide $1,200 per adult making up to $75,000 a year, or $2,400 to a married couple making up to $150,000 a year. There would also be a $500 credit per child.
The bill also calls for boosting unemployment insurance by offering workers an additional $600 a week for four months. That’s in addition to what the state unemployment programs already pay.
