Bruce Springsteen Performance Film Premiering at Toronto Film Festival
Bruce Springsteen is opting to release a performance film instead of touring in support of his new solo album Western Stars, but the film, like The Boss’ tours, will be opening in grand fashion.
The Western Stars film will be making its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF.) Directed by Springsteen and Thom Zimny, who also directed the super-successful Springsteen On Broadway, Western Stars clocks in at 83 and is described as an “intimate and personal concert film” where Springsteen “muses on life, rock, and the American dream.”
TIFF begins September 5 and runs through September 15. An exact showtime will be announced on August 20.
Springsteen let the cat out of the bag about the film earlier this month saying in an interview, “We made a film of us playing the Western Stars album start to finish. I knew we weren’t going to tour, so I figured this was the best way to do it.”
So far, there’s no word yet whether the film will screen in theaters nationwide or head to Netflix or another streaming service.
