David Bowie: New Website Celebrates 50th Anniversary of ‘Space Oddity,’ Moon Landing
David Bowie and his breakthrough single, “Space Oddity,” turned 50 yesterday (July 11.) With the inaugural moon landing’s 50th anniversary just days away on July 20, Parlophone has unveiled a new site to celebrate both historic events.
SpaceOddity50.com now hosts “Space Oddity x Unlock The Moon Experience” where users can get a brand new 2019 Tony Visconti mix of “Space Oddity.” To get the new mix of the song, simply go to SpaceOddity50.com on your cell phone and follow instructions to direct your phone’s camera towards the moon. Once aligned, you’ll unlock the track.
A double 7-inch single of “Space Oddity” is now available, featuring both the original “Space Oddity” mono version plus the original B-side “Wild Eyed Boy From Freecloud” and brand new 2019 mixes of each by Visconti. A new “Space Oddity” 7-inch boxed set is also available and includes a double-sided poster featuring an original “Space Oddity” ad and a shot of Bowie taken on stage at the “Save Rave ’69” concert at the London.
