A Band Recreated Journey’s “Separate Ways” Video & It’s Pretty Spot-On
Even the biggest Journey fans would have to admit the video for their hit “Separate Ways” is more than a little cheesy, but that’s part of the video’s legacy and charm. That’s certainly something the nu-disco band Escort recognized when they took it upon themselves to recreate the video for their latest single, “Outta My Head.”
From the wardrobe to the camera angles to Steve Perry‘s gesticulations, it’s pretty remarkable how spot-on Escort’s remake is, and that was by design. The video’s producer/co-director Eugene Cho told Rolling Stone he custom made all of the shirts in the video. Actress Bridget Barkan, who plays Perry, said, “It was definitely a labor of love that couldn’t have happened without lots of prep. I watched every shot and filmed myself doing it, then, of course, lit a candle and prayed to the altar of Steve Perry for his blessing of melodrama.”
Honestly, what a blessing this video is! Check out Escort’s version below, which also features the original “Separate Ways” video in the bottom right corner for the sake of comparison.
