First David Bowie Demo Found in Old Bread Basket
At some point or another, we’ve stored various important items in strange places, but this story about David Bowie’s first demo is pretty outrageous to say the yeast…oops…least.
Per The Guardian, the demo of a 16-year-old Bowie singing “I Never Dreamed” with The Konrads, his first band, was found by David Hadfield, the drummer/manager for The Konrads. Hadfield was in the middle of moving when he found the tape in an old bread basket in loft storage in his garage.
“There is no other recording of the demo featuring David as lead in existence,” said Hadfield. “Decca initially turned us down, but when they eventually gave us an audition later that year, vocalist Roger Ferris was the lead voice and David sang backing harmonies.”
The demo is going to be up for auction in September via Omega Auctions and is expected to go for £10,000 (about $13,100 USD.)
So…anyone else going to set aside time to clear out their garage soon? Who knows what you could find!
