Music News

The Boss has a treasure trove of live recordings he releases via his Live.BruceSpringsteen.net website, and this new release actually marks the first time this recording is getting an “official” release.

Available for download now is Springsteen’s July 7, 1978 show from The Roxy in West Hollywood, Calif.  The gig was originally broadcast on KMET-FM and became one of the most popular Springsteen bootlegs among fans.

The show is unique not just because of its broadcast but in the fact that on July 5, The Boss was playing his first arena show in Los Angeles at The Forum, and this gig at The Roxy was, more or less, a surprise show.  In a time before social media, literal word-of-mouth started spreading within The Forum show, which according to writer Erik Flannigan, led to people leaving that gig in order to try and get tickets for The Roxy gig.

And now you kind of understand why this show has been so popular as a bootleg.
