Highlights from the Songwriters HOF Ceremony
Neil Diamond and John Mellencamp were among those honored at last night’s 49th Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame induction and awards dinner.
Mellencamp was honored alongside fellow inductees Bill Anderson, Steve Dorff, Jermaine Dupri, Alan Jackson, Robert “Kool” Bell, Ronald Bell, George Brown & James “JT” Taylor p/k/a “Kool & The Gang” and Allee Willis. Diamond, meanwhile, received the Johnny Mercer Award, the highest honor awarded by the Songwriters HOF.
Mellencamp was inducted by Nora Guthrie and performed a two-song acoustic set of “Longest Days” and “Jack and Diane.” Diamond, who was forced to retire from touring due to being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease took to the stage and closed out the evening with his classic “Sweet Caroline.”
