Last week, a four-year-old boy went missing in North Carolina after walking along the beach with his mother.

According to authorities, a wave hit the little boy, pushing him out into the open water.

The boy’s mother tried to rescue him but was unable to reach him in time.

Now, officials with the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office have recovered his body.

According to WISN12, the boy’s body was discovered on Carova Beach early this morning.

At the time the incident occurred, the boy and his family were on vacation. They are from New Hampshire.

The family thanked supporters for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.

The boy’s body will be transported to New Hampshire, where he will be laid to rest.
