AC/DC Fans Start Campaign To Get Band Atop U.K. Christmas Chart
In the wake of AC/DC co-founder Malcolm Young‘s death this month, a campaign has been launched in the U.K. to make the group’s 1982 hit “For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)” the Christmas week No. 1 in the U.K.
A group of fans that have previously pushed for the British honor have created a new campaign video on social media with a post that announces, “After the sadness of Malcolm’s loss…and producer and brother George (Young) last month, our inbox has been overwhelmed today with suggestions to bring back the page’s main aim…to put AC/DC at the top of the Christmas chart. We did an amazing job in 2013…giving the band its highest ever UK single chart placing (No. 4)…but who would be up for having another crack at putting an Acca Dacca classic above an ‘X Factor’ nobody in tribute to Malcolm, George and Bon (Scott)?”
The campaign is urging fans to purchase or stream the song (the latter as many times as possible) during the week from December 15-21.
Young died on November 18 at the age of 64 after a battle with dementia. His funeral was held Tuesday (November 28) in Sydney, Australia. Last year’s U.K. Christmas No. 1 was “Rockabye” by the pop group Clean Bandit featuring Sean Paul and Anne-Marie.
