Report: The Who Slated To Replace Elton John In Caesars Vegas Residency Slot
Is The Who headed for Las Vegas?
That’s the rumor being reported by The Mirror in the U.K., which ran a story over the weekend claiming the group will replace Elton John‘s show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace starting in 2018. The paper reports that the Who will sign a two-year residency deal earning up at $16-$46 million depending on the number of shows the group performs at a predicted nearly $300,00 per night. None of the parties have confirmed the deal yet.
John’s Vegas run is slated to end in May after 13 years, 450 shows and more than 1.8 million fans. A “Vegas insider” tells The Mirror that, “Elton is leaving, so the promoters and resort wanted to bring in an act of equal stature.”
The Who, according to the Insider, is “open” to the idea of a residency, and “the talks have been going well and there is a genuine hope the deal will be done. The issues are simply the volume of shows and total length of the run.”
Vegas, of course, is where Who bassist John Entwistle died on June 27,. 2002 at the age of 57, at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino the night before the group was to launch a tour.
