Big Chart Gains Expected In Wake Of Tom Petty’s Passing
In the usual macabre twist, death will apparently be good for Tom Petty‘s record sales, according to Billboard.
The magazine reports that several of Petty’s albums are likely to return to the Billboard 200 chart in the wake of his death on Monday (October 2), with his 1993 Greatest Hits album leading the way with a Top 10 showing on projected sales of 45,000 copies.
Billboard also anticipates chart showings for Petty’s solo albums Full Moon Fever and Wildflowers, his classic Damn The Torpedoes and the 2000 Anthology: Through The Years. The official charts will be released on Friday (October 6).
Billboard projects that several Petty tracks will also return to the various rock songs charts, including “American Girl,” “Free Fallin’,” “I Won’t Back Down,” “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” and “You Don’t Know How It Feels.”
