More Foreigner Reunion Performances Could Be A Reality
We may not have seen the last of Foreigner‘s original members reunited.
After frontman Lou Gramm, multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald and keyboardist Al Greenwood played a three-song encore with the current Foreigner on July 20 at Jones Beach in Wantagh, N.Y., there’s talk — or, as group founder Mick Jones puts it, “conjecture” — about more such performances taking place in the future alongside the current lineup of Foreigner.
Jones tells us that,
“It’s definitely crossed my mind. I think it’s something that the fans would love…It’d be interesting, the contrast of the two styles of the band or the two, the makeup of each band and, yeah, I think it would be appealing. I probably would go see it myself.”
In addition to the Jones Beach reunion, original drummer Dennis Elliott joined Foreigner during a recent show in Tampa, Fla. Jones adds that to make more reunions a reality,
“A lot of goodwill has to be flowing down that river, and I think it’s started so I think just being ourselves, just being honest and transparent with each other and everything like that. I think there’s no bad apple anywhere in the whole thing, so I can’t see any big problems that would be set, the thought of doing that.”
Jones also says plans are afoot to film a show featuring Gramm, McDonald, Greenwood, Elliott and second Foreigner bassist Rick Wills during October in Michigan, though no firm details have been announced. Foreigner is currently on the road celebrating its 40th anniversary in a package with Cheap Trick and Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience.
