Sammy Hagar Talks New Chicken Foot Track, Future of the Band

It's been five years since there's been a new song from Chickenfoot, the all-star group featuring Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, but the wait has ended in the form of "Divine Termination."

Hagar tells us the new song on the just-released compilation Best + Live started with Satriani:

"Y'know, Joe always writes. He's the most prolific friggin' writer...He wrote this piece of music and he sent it to me...I went, 'That's fuckin' awesome.' I immediately wrote lyrics and melody to it...It was like one of those 20-minute deals....and called Joe and said, 'Oh, fuck, I love this song. I got it all down. Why don't you send it to my engineer when I come home and I'll sing it. So I come home, I sing it; He just had computer drums, he played bass, had one guitar, and I sang to that and then we sent it to Chad and he put the real drums on and I got Mike to fly up and we did the vocals and the bass and we sent it to Joe and Joe friggin' did all the rest of the guitars and finished the song, and then we mixed it."

Hagar, however, cautions fans who may hope "Divine Termination” will lead to a new Chickenfoot album:

"It made me want to make a whole record like that, but Chad's out with the Peppers and I'm too busy with everything I'm doing in my life to commit to a new record, and Joe's doing another record right now so we just wait, so we put this out."

Hagar recently announced a new liquor, Santo Mezquila, in partnership with Maroon 5's Adam Levine. He'll be at the South By Southwest festival this week in Austin, Texas to speak and film an episode of his "Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar" show for AXS.
