Ringo Starr, Barry Gibb To Be Knighted

After much buzz late in 2017, Queen Elizabeth II made it official in her 2018 New Year’s Honors list that Ringo Starr will be knighted this year.

Per the New Year’s Honors list, Starr will receive the KBE, which stands for Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, for his philanthropic efforts and work in music.  Starr and the rest of The Beatles received the MBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in 1965.

As expected, many congratulated Starr after the news broke, including Paul McCartney who shared via Instagram, “Huge congrats Sir Ringo!  Sir Richard Starkey has a nice ring to it.  Best drummer best pal!”

Also on the Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s Honors list was Barry Gibb, who will be receiving the CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his charity work and his contributions to music.  Gibb said via Twitter, “I am deeply honoured, humbled and very proud.  This is a moment in life to be treasured and never forgotten.  I want to acknowledge how responsible my brothers are for this honour.  It is as much theirs as it is mine…The magic, the glow and the rush will last me the rest of my life.”
